Welcome to the Studio...

Counselling, Jen

I was taught in my early years of being a therapist that you can only journey with others as far as you've gone yourself...and so...I have been committed to my own healing work and only practice what I have also experienced.  I have learned people, more than any technique or skill or teaching, want to feel 'felt', seen, heard and cared for...that's what I offer you.  The therapy relationship is meant to be a curative one, one unlike any other relationship.

I was born in Scotland, then moved to Canada as a 7 year old girl to adjust to a whole new world...I grew up with 3 older siblings in a small prairie town.  Like so many people I've known in therapy, I thought my life was 'normal' and 'good' and 'fine'...yet as I entered adulthood, then marriage, motherhood, I began to unravel...little did I know then that this unravelling would be critical and essential to me becoming me, fully me.  I am so grateful I found a gentle, wise, and honest therapist who had also journeyed through unravelling...and, through this experience I learned what it means to truly heal; not just cope or soothe, not just 'learn skills' to avoid or deny, but to HEAL.  Healing is knitting oneself together with all the bits of wool and fabric that have made up one's life so far...healing lets me feel whole, for a moment, an hour, a day.  Perhaps staying in wholeness will never be constant, because humanness, flawdness, imperfectness can never be transcended.  I know today that I can enjoy the pursuit of healing, and I offer that journey to you...to be a steady presence beside you, a gentle navigator.
